web browser wishlist
I've been trying a variety of different browsers lately, in my yearly attempt to find something that doesn't break the web quite as much as icab does, while offering a comparable featureset. so far no luck. I'll check in next year and see if anything's changed.
icab:
+built-in source validator (make icab smile)
+search keyword support
+history/bookmark search via url/name substring
+decent object filtering
+auto-save session
-sometimes breaks the web
-unusably slow ecmascript (javascript) implementation
-still beta = crashy
safari:
+reasonably robust, fast renderer (webkit)
-feature-free
-memory leaky
-"safe file" downloaded file opener annoyance thingy
-tab implementation leaves some to be desired (many tabs overflow too soon into a menu)
omniweb:
+webkit renderer
+novel vertical tab interface, the drawer is nasty though
+search keyword support
+source reformatter (though it should handle js & css to be useful)
-sometimes breaks the web
-no browser-wide agent rejigging (agent="omniweb" breaks the web)
-"safe file" downloader annoyance thingy
-not free
firefox:
+everybody loves firefox
-renderer just as buggy/crufty as any other
-ui looks like ass on os10

firefox
+ quicksearches
+ only partially breaks blogger, and the only one where the wysiwig editor shows up
- no history/bookmark search via substring
- slower than ass
omniweb
- breaks half the things i use
icab
- breaks ever more things i use
safari
- no quicksearches. unacceptable.
you just hate firefox because people like it :(
don't forget the part where firefox chews away on your cpu even if it's not active..
